HELLO Armchair BEA 2014! It's me, Skeeter Lee.

My Introduction for Armchair BEA 2014

Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?

Hello. My name is Skeeter Lee (a nickname). And I like big books and I cannot lie.

Who am I kidding? I like little books too.

I am a reformed romance snob - now devouring everything in sight. I have been blogging off and on for about four years. I launched this blog because I started reading books in the romance genre again. There was so much to choose from in the genre that I was not sure which way to turn.

I hope to connect with other romance readers specifically and book-lovers in general.

Describe your blog in just one sentence. Then, list your social details so we can connect more online.

Kinky Vanilla Romance is primarily a book blog dedicated to romance stories of all flavors.

Well, almost all. LOL! There are some things that I don't want to read. I am making a short list.

I also like to watch movies, so I talk a little about that as well.

What’s your favorite book so far this year?

My favorite book so far this year is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. It's one of those big books that I like so much. Outlander is a 600+-page time-travel historical romance. Sort of. At first glance, it wasn't a book that I thought I would like.

Time-travel, history, and romance. Oh my!

No thank you. That's too much going on in one book. [I like all three genres.] And a big book at that. Reminded me of those restaurants that have too many menu options. Something has gotta give. Right?

I listened to the audiobook and was pleasantly surprised. Although it meanders quite a bit and is not without its issues, Outlander made me curious about Scottish history, laugh out loud, shake my head in disgust, wish for a television mini-series adaptation, and dream of being an outlaw in love. What more can you ask for in a book?

March 6, 2014 marked Outlander's 26th anniversary. Have you read it?

What is your favorite blogging resource?

My favorite blogging resource is Bloggiesta.

What book would you love to see as a movie?

I would love to see Outlander as a television mini-series adaptation. And it is happening! Well, kinda. It is being made into a television series (not a movie, not a mini-series) through STARZ (in the United States). It will be a regular cable-TV show with a 16-episode first season.

Of course:

I don't get the STARZ network with my television service.

The actors cast don't look like my Claire and Jaime.

[Cry me a river...]

Here's hoping the TV series much success (and that SONY releases it on DVD)!

I'll be cheering for Armchair BEA participants throughout the week.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to visit with you soon!

  1. I would love to read Outlander. It sounds like an interesting book. I write historical romance and my latest release was set in 18th century Ireland. I tend to write big books but not as large as Outlander. 600 pages? WOW!

    1. I listened to Outlander on audiobook so the 600 pages weren't so bad. I usually don't read books that long by authors that I haven't previously read. Outlander had been on my TBR for many years so I thought I would knock it out with an audiobook.

    2. I am going to head over to your site later on today and check out your historical romance novel.

I like to read books set in Ireland. I should to get a group of readers together and head over to Ireland for a visit :-)

    3. Is your historical romance called Irish Twist of Fate?

  2. I like the big ones on an e-reader ever since I tried to carry around Under the Dome. I liked Outlander but haven't read any of the sequels. My Armchair BEA Intro

    1. I listened to Dragonfly in Amber (#2) during the Bout of Books 10 read-a-thon earlier this month. My library cancelled its audiobook service last week. SMH. I seriously want to stage a protest.

Davina Porter did such a great job with the narration on the audiobooks. I cannot bear to go back to paper.

  3. I'm a total Outlander lover. I usually don't read a lot of romance, but those books have SOOOO much to offer! I've read the first four and I need to get on to book five.

  4. I adored Outlander. I have not read the most recent but it is on my list. And I am totally bummed I don't have Starz.

    1. I can't believe that it took me so long to get around to reading the series. SMH. I am anxious to finish the series.

  5. I have heard so many good things about Outlander. I need to read that like yesterday. I myself don't read romance. I just haven't found the one romance that would fit me. I did read Fifty Shades of Grey.. and well.... that just wasn't for me. I just read above that your library canceled the audio book option. I am shocked at this. I don't understand why they would do that unless not enough people were checking them out so they want to spend their money elsewhere????

    1. I dunno. They didn't offer any advance notice or explanation. There was just a note on the website where the access use to be. Maybe I was the only using it? The audiobook service was one of the main reasons I started reading romance novels again.

Left to my own devices, my reading list would be primarily mysteries and literary fiction. Audiobooks made other genre reading easier.

The cancellation is definitely gonna reduce my number of romance reads :-(

  6. Love to get to know other Outlander lovers. I am in love with the audiobooks, Davina Porter does such a fantastic job. I read Outlander when it first was published and have been convincing people to read it ever since! I agree the actors do not fit how I picture Claire and Jamie, but I will watch the show.

    1. I am definitely on the Outlander bandwagon now ;-)

Maybe Audible will put the series on sale to promote the upcoming release of book eight. [wishful thinking]

      "Davina Porter! I'll miss you!!"

  7. I read Outlander quite a few years ago, but picked up the audiobook last year. You've reminded me I need to give it a reread! But it's funny - while I loved Outlander, I've never felt inclined to read any of the rest of the series.

  8. Hi Skeeter!
I have not read Outlander, but I think I need to add it to my TBR list! I hope they do release it on DVD, I would love to watch the show, and I don't get Starz either.
I also love to watch movies (and TV) when I have some free time that isn't spent reading and blogging.
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog! :D

  9. I LOVE OUTLANDER! Dragonfly is of course my favorite book of the series, but I did not like it that much at first. It grew on me. I cannot wait for the series, even though there is no way it can be as good as the books, I am still super excited to watch it. my book club has been spending the past year reading this entire series and hopefully we are going to get together to watch the tv show.

  10. I love Outlander as well! As you said, it has everything. Romance, time travel, different and awesome characters, and I never seem to mind reading lots of words when Jaime and Clare are playing with those words :)

Thanks for stopping by my intro-post yesterday. I look forward to getting to know you, Skeeter Lee!
