Hunter Betrayed by Nancy Corrigan

Tainted from birth, Harley lives a life cloaked in darkness and temptation. She resists the lure of her evil legacy by holding the memory of her ghostly savior close. Every night without him is agony. She fantasizes about him and yearns for his body, but he’s not the protector or lover she’s envisioned. He’s a Hunter bred to eliminate her kind. He’s also her only hope of salvation.

Calan, the leader of the Wild Hunt, was created to protect mankind from the Unseelie Court. For a millennium, he’s sacrificed to ensure the horrid creatures remain in the Underworld, but his strength wanes. He must rely on his enemy’s daughter to save him, but he doesn’t expect the intensity of their lust or love. Her touch calms his wild nature and ignites his carnal desires. He’ll risk all to save her, but doing so forces him to make the ultimate sacrifice, one that’ll damn him to suffer forever in his own living hell.

A Romantica® Paranormal erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave

EXCERPT

Calan heard the torch’s crackle minutes before the sinful fragrance of oranges and spice reached him.

Harley.

He closed his eyes and breathed a sigh of relief. Several hours had passed since he’d spoken to her. He’d almost given up hope that she would come to him.

The click of her boots resounded in the hallway. He focused on the stairs leading into his cell. Anticipation held him taut. Nine years he’d waited for her. In that time, he’d experienced a range of emotions from disappointment to hatred, but he’d never let go of the longing. He’d left a piece of himself with her. He wanted it back. Whether he kept the woman he’d given it to remained undecided.

Dirty white shoes appeared on the first step. Shapely legs covered in a clingy black material showed next. Another step revealed flaring hips that gave way to a small waist he could probably span with one hand. The longing he’d always carried for her turned into lust, a burning desire he couldn’t deny.

His pent-up breath escaped in a shudder. A tremor shook the dainty hand curled at her hip. The response, along with the heavy evidence of her arousal in the air added to the sexual tension tightening his limbs.

Full breasts that strained the confines of her shirt rose and fell with her rapid breaths. He should coax her the remaining distance but couldn’t form words. The sight of her pebbled nipples pushing against her thin top shut his mind down. Getting her naked and filling her became his only thought.

She reached out, braced a hand against the wall and took the last step.

Her gaze latched onto his.

His heart stopped.

Dear gods, the fuzzy image he’d held of her didn’t do her justice. She was the most beautiful female he’d ever seen.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Please tell us more about the Huntsmen of the Wild Hunt. Who are they and what can we expect from the series?

The Huntsmen are demigods born of Arawn, Lord of the Underworld, and a human mother for the sole purpose of protecting mankind from the Unseelie fairy court. The Wild Hunt is the race to capture the escaped beings and return them to their prison. Hunter Betrayed as the introduction to the world of the Huntsmen allows the Wild Hunt to ride again. The Hunters have been betrayed and cursed. The series will follow the surviving Huntsmen’s journey to heal their souls in order to save the world.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) of Hunter Betrayed to write and why?

My favorite chapter is the prologue to Hunter Betrayed. It captures the Wild Hunt in vivid detail. I’m a very visual person and I woke from a dream with this scene in my head. It launched the Wild Hunt world and defined the characters and their struggles in my head. Their lives revolve around duty and sacrifice. The Wild Hunt books will give them the one thing denied to them—love.

What about your characters surprised you while writing?

How naughty they are. LOL. Here are these immortals who were literally birthed for one purpose—to protect—and they harbor an intense sexual hunger. The reason makes perfect sense of course. They can become consumed by their need to seek retaliation for the wronged, but even the most wicked creature can be tamed. Sex works wonders on redirecting the intense focus from fury to passion.

How did you select the cover for Hunter Betrayed?

The only input I have on covers is to offer suggestions on mood and physical characteristics, but I think the Ellora’s Cave art department did a wonderful job taking my ideas are creating the cover for Hunter Betrayed. The model depicts Calan wonderfully from his tortured expression to his impressive body. Oh, and the hoodie…perfect!!! I love it!

How long do you generally let a story idea ‘marinate’ in your head before you start the book?

It depends on how badly the characters want their story told and what I’m working on when ‘the idea’ hits me. I write down aspects of it as the story unfolds in my head for whenever I can get to it.

What are the most important elements in good romance writing, in your opinion?

Passion, devotion and a willingness to give your partner everything. I’m not a fan of ‘asshole’ heroes who redeem themselves in the end. Women and men alike deserve to be respected. Nor will I ever write anything with cheating. I’m a romantic at heart J

What’s your biggest challenge as a writer? How did you overcome it, or  how are you working to overcome it?

The lure of social media. I find myself opening up my internet for a quick peek of email or what’s new on social media then lose track of time when I should be writing. I’m trying to limit my time on the internet. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. It’s a work in progress.

Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.

Fans. I love talking to people who love the characters and worlds I create as much as I do. I treasure those interactions.

What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

Although it’s in my bio, I think many people are surprised to know that I have a science background. I still run into the stigma of you’re a geek how can you write erotic?

Finish the sentence: One book I wish I had written is… Interview with a Vampire.

I love this book and the world Anne Rice created. It was my first venture into the paranormal world and it completely captivated me.

What project are you working on now?

I just finished Hunter Forsaken, book 2 of the Wild Hunt series and am working on book 2 of a contemporary erotic series tentatively titled, Sander’s Valley. But there are a few characters demanding their HEAs be written including a wolf shifter from my Royal Pride series.
