The Rental by Rebecca Berto: Book Blitz with Giveaway

Kinky Vanilla Romance is pleased to share The Rental by Rebecca Berto, as part of a book blitz with Xpresso Book Tours.

The Rental by Rebecca Berto
Series: The Rental (#1)
Publication Date: September 22, 2014
Genres: Adult, Erotica, Romance

Synopsis

At first, Rick Delaney watched Vee Wyland with the hungry eyes of a fox as if she were a rabbit … his rabbit. But one day, he slunk away without notice.

Months away from graduating high school, Vee’s life is on the verge of crumbling. At home, dire finances and long hours test her family. Her boyfriend hardly pays attention to her. And she can’t shake her feelings for his older brother, Rick.

Then, all in one night, tragedy tears her teetering life into shreds.

When Rick and Vee reunite, the sparks fly. However, she unwittingly signs away a future for both of them. In his world, a place called The Rental, she becomes Victoria and Rick becomes Rhett. One part of her watches with fascination, while the other unfurls and embraces her sexual awakening. It began as a game, but the consequences are real.

Following their heart’s desire is forbidden, but walking away could strip their hope for a future.

The Rental is an erotic romance that explores how sex isn’t purely physical; sometimes, it’s a gateway to your soul.

Excerpt

First Meeting:

The story of Rick and I began with my best friend, Cara. Sort of.

Cara and I have been friends since we were twelve, a friendship forged when a random class seating arrangement lumped us together.

Rick was school captain of sports in his last year of school. He became the sudden reason attendance spiked during assemblies. The teachers were rapt with our interest, even if they didn’t know why so many girls were there. We would all sit there holding our tongues at the sight of him in sneakers and workout shorts, revealing crafted calves from years of running, and his tank hugging every curve.
In one English class after such an assembly, Cara wrote a lovey-dovey poem about some guy who could run like a bolt of lightning, who had killer legs, and a perfect set of broad shoulders. That and he had tousled, medium brown hair and dark eyes. She denied it when I asked her, but every other boy in our year level and the one above had pimples, too many bones, and squeaky voices. It was obvious after her extreme lusting for Rick it was about him.

I, too, crushed on him, so when Cara made me ‘get a word in,’ I didn’t complain. That day after school, I pulled him up to chat. He was with Justin, who was in our year level and fifteen like Cara and I. Rick was eighteen, although not by much because he hadn’t gotten his licence yet. He said they were waiting for their mum.

Justin got right into chatting, but Rick eyed me over his shoulder, smiling, but giving me a touch too much attention to be purely polite. I still cringed when I thought about my level of nerves hanging with two cute boys.

I decided the best lead to see if Rick wanted to ask Cara on a date was the weather. Maybe I thought mentioning the word ‘hot’ would heat up the conversation. Or I could find a lead-in by mentioning how good Cara looked in her bikini.

What happened was I waved my hands everywhere and tripped on nothing at all but my stupidity. Rick lunged for me and picked me up the moment my knees crashed into the dirt. I sat there, legs dangling over the school fence while Justin washed off one of my knees with his water bottle, and Rick did the same with his other. I held my lips together in a firm line, refusing to let my lip wobble, and focused on the blinding sun. At least it made it impossible to cry.

Rick ended up letting Cara down by saying he needed to concentrate on schoolwork, which we both translated to she was too young. I frowned with her in disappointment, saddened by the fact if she was too young, so was I.

But Justin kept talking to me and developed rapt feelings. We found friendship while Rick and I dodged glances and conversations that were heated and angsty. Between Justin’s interest and the age difference between Rick and me, any more than what we were was too premature.

When Rick upped and left the country last year, Justin advanced as if a barrier had been lifted. I told him I wasn’t ready, but Justin was very much so and hung around me at lunches, parties, and with groups of friends at the shops after hours. Months passed and Rick wasn’t coming back. We never had anything, so I stopped feeling guilty for wanting to move on. And one day, when Justin asked me out as his girlfriend, I didn’t say no.

I had gotten high with Cara and some other friends in the shadows of the garage at some house party while everyone else inside danced. Justin kissed me and I let him, and we kept on fooling around.
Now I was in my senior year, but in another sense, I was in the same place as three years previously—a knobbly-kneed girl who first met the Delaneys.

How could I date a guy and still be so breathless when I came within sniffing distance of his elder brother?

It was late, and I was meant to be sleeping, but I lay there and played with the trimming of my sheets, lost in thoughts and weighed by shame. I’d never cheat on Justin, but the way Rick still looked at me … sweeping in to my rescue … I gulped and wiped my forehead feeling hot and sweaty.
I had wanted to do things tonight.

“Stop it, Vee,” I whispered to myself. “Sleep.”

But I remained awake for hours in thought about one brother, his water bottle, and him bended below me.

Legal Action by Kimball Lee

Her ex is a celebrity NFL quarterback who could pass for a Viking God. She's surrounded by hot men but her life revolves around work and she doesn't have time for love or sex. Until Alexander Bly, the stop-the-clock gorgeous, billionaire publishing magnate becomes her newest client at the law firm. He's the man responsible for the magazine cover that turned Charlotte into every man's sex fantasy. Bly has had women and the world at his beck and call, but no woman has ever rocked his world. EXCERPT

She couldn’t stop herself from turning her face up to him. He ran the tips of his fingers across her cheek, her lips; the smooth line of her jaw.

He let his fingers linger on her lips, and she caught them and kissed the tips. He kissed her eyes and forehead, then led her to the SUV and opened the door for her.

“Do you get sea sick?” he asked.

“No,” she said.

“Good, I have things I want to talk to you about, Charlotte. This is exhilarating and frightening for both of us, I believe. But we’ll make sense of it if we both set our doubts aside and listen to each other. I realize that being a lawyer is the most important thing to you, and I get it. You’re a year younger than I was when I first met you, and back then work was everything to me. Of course I slept with every woman I found the least bit attractive as well; but I was careful, always. We’ll talk more about that on the boat. I’m just saying don’t turn away from us and be sorry later that you did.”

“Boat,” she said, “what boat?”

“My boat, we’re going out on it, we’ll spend the night on the ocean, it’s the best sleep you’ll ever have. The rocking of the boat is hypnotic. It’ll be just us in our own little world.”
“I didn’t bring any clothes. I don’t have a swim suit.”

He pointed to the back seat, and it was covered with bags from Saks and Neiman Marcus.

EXCERPT:

We meandered to the backyard, which was on the inter-coastal, champagne flutes in our hands. Although I knew it was a joke, I couldn’t help it. I kept admiring the ring on my finger, pretending it was really my engagement ring. I expected Eric or Jaye to fess up and admit to Eric’s family that our engagement was a joke, but they didn’t. They just kept letting Eric’s family think we were really engaged. Lois kept on beaming, tossing out questions about our engagement. She wanted details. Jaye ended up answering almost all of them for me. After all, if not for Jaye, this “engagement” would not be happening.

“So… when did this happen?” Lois asked.

“Tonight, Mom,” Jaye answered quickly. “Would you believe it happened right before we came over?”

“Really? Wow. Were you expecting it, Hilary?”

“No,” I honestly replied. “It came out of left field.”

“Oh, I love a surprise engagement,” Lois beamed.

“Yeah, it was a surprise all right. Hilary wasn’t the only one that was caught off guard,” Jaye clarified as I tried to keep a straight face.

“How did Marc propose? Did he get down on one knee? Irvin didn’t, and I was so disappointed.”

“Don’t feel bad, Mom, Marc didn’t get down on one knee either. But I think he did get weak in the knees.” Jaye added, “But you asked how he proposed. Let’s just say… I don’t think he planned for it.”

Lois smiled and took a delicate sip of her drink. I still had a stupid smile plastered on my face. I was having a blast. Well, I was until I glanced over and saw the pained look in Marc’s eyes, which was growing more noticeable with every additional comment out of Jaye’s mouth.

He was trying so hard to be a good sport. I could see it was getting increasingly difficult for him to let this charade continue. As he got agitated, so did I. In an instant, the joke stopped being funny. It was sad and hurtful. No matter how hard I pretended, Jaye’s proposal wasn’t real, nor was it going to magically become so. Instead, it started to become crystal clear to me, while looking at Marc’s troubled face, that he had no intention of proposing to me now—or, I feared, ever. Would I be okay always just being his girlfriend?

It’s amazing how devastating disappointment can be, especially when it’s over something that you didn’t really expect to occur in the first place, if you are truly honest with yourself...

A Woman of Honour by Marlow Kelly

Duncan Campbell wakes to discover he is imprisoned with a woman in his enemy's dungeon in the Highlands of Scotland. The disenchanted warrior hopes his last few moments on earth will be spent in the arms of the sweet-voiced Isabel. If only she will cooperate.

Isabel Douglas has no intention of obliging the crude captive. The penniless noblewoman considers herself too tall and thin to be desirable. She intends to become a nun. But first, disguised as a boy, she must deliver an important letter to Scotland's hero in hiding, King Robert the Bruce.

Together, the pair make a daring escape that plunges them into the bleak countryside in the middle of winter. In the struggle to survive, they learn the true strength of their feelings for each other. But when Duncan's animosity towards the king becomes evident, Isabel must decide between her heart and her country.

EXCERPT

“And even though we’re going to die, you still can’t find it in your heart to forgive me?”

“Maybe if you were very nice to me and warmed me with your sweet, little body, I could see my way to absolving you.”

She gasped and he couldn’t help but smile at her outraged reaction. He had no idea why he enjoyed baiting her, but he couldn’t seem to stop.

“You’re the most sinful man I’ve ever met. I take it back. I don’t want your absolution. How can you think about your carnal needs at a time like this?”

The ire in her voice made him want to continue their argument, but his headache was worsening by the minute.

EXCERPT:

Behind me, the door swung shut quietly in its hinges, locking itself after it clicked into the jamb.

"Justin?"

There's no answer. Maybe he's not home yet.

I'm putting my bag down when I hear the voice behind me. "Get up against the wall—NOW! Put your hands out," he demands.

There's no point in resisting. I step up to the foyer wall and nervously place my hands against it, waiting to see what the next move will be. My pulse is a loud whomp in my ears.
The sound of his footfalls fill the small space, approaching on me slowly, deliberately, until I see his feet on the floor between mine, his bare feet and bare legs. Strong hands lift the heavy coat off me and toss it to the floor beside us and then return to my shoulders where they begin to coil up my hair. A familiar hardness presses into the small of my back.

"I've been thinking about you all day," Justin whispers into my ear, making my knees weak.

"And what, exactly, were you thinking about?" I breathe, praying for his magical hands.

His left hand pulls my hair, turning my face toward his. "I thought about making you cry with pleasure. It's the only way I can tolerate your devastating absence." He quickly bites my lower lip, tempting me. "I love you, Warrior. And I need you."

Justin's right hand slithers around to the front of me under the bottom of my shirt, rising up between my breasts to grab my bra like a handle. Then both of his hands pull me tightly against him, molding me into his warm body.

My lips ache for him, my hunger for the taste of his tongue spills over. "Kiss me, please!" I beg. "Touch me like a man should touch a woman.

"I'm going to do everything to you that a man should," he growls.

His mouth finds mine, the pleasure of it searing all of my senses. He tugs my hair a little more and completes the seal between our lips, circling his tongue around mine. Underneath my shirt, his powerful hand lets go of my bra and gently grabs my breast, pressing the fleshiness between his fingers. He lets me hear a low moan deep in his chest. It's more felt against my body than it's heard by my ears.

It doesn't matter that I want more, that my clit is throbbing for his touch, Justin makes me wait for it. He releases my hair and my breast, both hands moving to the bottom of my shirt where he pulls at it uncaringly, ripping it over my head and tossing it on top of my coat. My bra comes off me with the same ease, and he spins me around to face him, pushing my back against the wall.

"My fucking God! I will never get tired of looking at you," his deep voice confesses while his eyes widen with lust.

There's no misunderstanding him. My own eyes were taking in his fully unclothed body with the same excitement and enthusiasm. The thick muscles of his chest rise and fall with his heavy breathing, and his well-defined shoulders beg me to claw my nails into them.

Christ! How does he stay in that shape?

             Fuck it—I don't care!

At First Sight book cover mya

Modern love can be a headache. Just ask Annie Morgan, who, recently divorced, finds herself in the middle of the proverbial online dating jungle. Making a deal with her best friend, Annie agrees to go out on exactly five online dates out of seventy-six potential suitors.

Shane Nicholls was jaded, he had his heart broken and never got over the hurt. Now, convinced that all women are trouble, he avoids drama at any cost. Funny thing is, drama seems to find Shane around every corner.

Can Annie, a romantic at heart, find love online or will she find love at first sight the old-fashioned way, by awkward, chance meetings with Shane Nicholls?

Through a number of obstacles and heartache, Annie and Shane find that love at first sight really does exist if you truly believe.

Excerpt

Johnny’s was packed. Standing on line to place her order, Annie took in her surroundings. Just as the owner, Johnny, was coming over to take her order, something caught Annie’s eye. The guy near the window, he seemed familiar somehow. Where had she seen him before? He was eating dinner with a pretty brunette. He lifted his head to look at Annie as their eyes locked. On no! It was the guy from the mall, the one she bumped into. She quickly spun around, knocking right into the waitress who was carrying a tray of soft drinks.

Soda soaked her shirt and dripped onto the floor. The waitress was clearly annoyed and appeared like she would have loved to tell Annie off. Instead she rolled her eyes and ran to get a towel. If Annie thought she was embarrassed before, it was nothing compared to how she felt now. Every eye in the place was on her, including the guy from the mall. Helpless to do anything else, she grabbed some napkins and bent down to sop up some of the mess.

“It seems you have a knack for causing a scene everywhere you go.” It was his voice. The voice that filled her head with inappropriate thoughts, with longing. What was she thinking? Did she dare look up?

His gaze was a magnet, forcing her to meet his eyes.

His eyes were a warmer brown than she had remembered, drawing her in.

“I...uh...”

“I’m joking. Here, let me help you with that.” He grabbed the napkins from her hand. The heat between them jolted her back. She moved quickly, surprised he could evoke such a reaction from her. Nobody had ever made her feel so exposed before. What was going on here? Annie felt foolish.

“I’m Shane. Shane Nicholls.” He extended his hand to her. They must have appeared to be quite the sight, bending over to clean up the mess while shaking hands.

“Annie.” Annie remembered her new rules of safety in the dating world. One of them was she would not reveal her last name or any other personal information until she was sure the guy wasn’t a stalker or anything.

“Annie. It suits you, I like it.” Annie had almost forgot about the woman waiting for Shane at the table near the window. She glanced over and took in a tight-lipped woman. It hit Annie that this woman was not the same stunning woman from the mall. Hmm, she had met his type before. This guy had “player” written all over him. She quickly brushed herself off and excused herself.

“Hey, Annie. Wait.” He reached for her hand. Annie forgot all about placing her order and made a beeline for the door. She didn’t look back. Well, Annie figured, it looked like it would be Chinese food tonight.

BOOK BLAST for Charity's Warrior by Maya James

Synopsis:

Charity Powers is a young, intelligent woman that has left behind her predictable small town life, and even more predictable lover, to gamble on a fresh start in New York. She arrives with no leads or friends, just an armful of optimism and determination. When an attack at a local bar, a possible kidnapping attempt on her, is thwarted by a stranger, her life takes on an unforeseen turn.

Gorgeous and overly experienced Justin Collins saves Charity from her attacker, and continues to save her in many other ways. "He's just the right mix of gentleman and caveman,” is how she describes him.  He gives her exactly what she wants, and almost everything she needs, but his damaged past makes it impossible for him to commit.

At a new job, she falls into an online relationship with JP, the company’s owner.  She hasn’t seen him, but he fills the gaps of Justin’s absences and feeds a fire Justin left unattended.

The return of her ex-lover exposes the dangerous secrets around her—one of these men has the power and connections to keep her safe at any cost, and the endless love for her to use this power or give it up to keep her.

Justin has his arm around me, lightly playing with the hair behind my ear as we watched the streetlights come to life, quivering over the water's surface. The gondolier is actually humming a song now, but I think it is more to occupy himself than us. Our conversation drops off comfortably, and we enjoy the cool night. I take the opportunity and begin kissing the side of his face, following his strong jawline.
"If I told you that I'm falling in love with you, would you believe it?" Justin asks me suddenly.
My heart is instantly pounding, and much too loudly to deny it. I'm sure it's sending ripples out on the water as it shakes the boat. "Yes," I answer through the huge lump of emotion in my throat.
"Even though it would be a lie?" he adds softly.
"A lie?" I repeat painfully, insulted and devastated.
"I couldn't fall for you anymore. The truth is I've already fallen. I've even tried to get back up only to have you sweep the feet from under me again. I'm breaking the biggest promise I've ever made to myself, Charity." He turns to me, placing a hand on my cheek. "Despite all my efforts, I am hopelessly and endlessly in love with you. I don't want to know another day without you, I couldn't survive it."
He is looking at me for a response through two very vulnerable eyes. There is no catching my breath, or my heart. They are galloping around the lake like wild horses, without any reigns to control them by. I am lost in the dust of their hooves, unable to breathe, to form words and utter a cohesive sentence in reply.
